The Spirent Abacus 5000 is an advanced IP Telephony test system designed to effectively address the challenges associated with VoIP development and deployment. This cost-effective, flexible, and scalable test system offers integrated Analog, TDM, and Ethernet interfaces, enabling comprehensive testing of converged IP Telephony network elements. By combining multiple functionalities into a single platform, the Abacus 5000 allows users to objectively measure Voice Quality (MOS, PSQM, PSQM+, PESQ) under realistic voice stream load conditions.

The Abacus 5000 supports a wide range of formats, including tones, WAV files, and video encoding (H.261 and H.263), as well as various CODEC variants such as G.711, G.726, G.723.1, and G.729A/B for encoding and decoding. It offers an extensive set of protocols, including Analog FXO (loop start/ground start), SS7, CAS, MF R1/R1.5/R2, ISDN PRI, GR-303, V5.1/V5.2, RTP, H.323, SIP, MGCP, Megaco, clear channel signaling, and Fax with T.30 and T.38. Additionally, the Abacus 5000 is available in three cPCI chassis form factors: a 4-slot portable chassis, a 3-slot rack mountable chassis, and a 13-slot rack mountable chassis.

By simplifying the testing of converged IP Telephony and PSTN networks and services, the Abacus 5000 enables ISPs, ITSPs, IP-PBX, IP gateway server, router, and switch manufacturers to migrate or converge into IP Telephony more effectively. The test system supports synchronized and complex test scenarios, allowing users to achieve higher network reliability and interoperability among IP Telephony network elements. With the Abacus 5000, the need for multiple testing devices can be eliminated, resulting in overall cost savings. Furthermore, the system features 1 to 13 IP Telephony cards with an auto-sensing 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, alongside 1 to 13 TDM or analog cards.

The Abacus 5000 empowers users to test the capacity of signaling and media processing in IP Telephony equipment, assess the accuracy of network information in Registration services, and evaluate the signaling handling of TDM and IP-PBXs. It can also test the performance of Media Gateways and Media Gateway Controllers, SIP signaling call setup of Proxy servers, and IP Telephony Switches and routers. Furthermore, the system facilitates testing of call accounting, voice messaging, and conferencing servers. With the Abacus 5000, bearer capacity information can be transmitted using H.323, ensuring the establishment and maintenance of speech paths throughout the duration of a call. Additionally, the test system allows for the generation of call setups at rates based on specified measurements, enabling thorough testing of various call scenarios.
