The CKL-2U by Spirent is an Ethernet Network Emulator Rack Mountable Chassis, utilized for transforming EOAM and carrier-class Ethernet services into a reality. Designed to accurately replicate real-world conditions, this chassis empowers users to recreate delays and impairments experienced on live production 10/100 Mbps, 1Gbps, and 10Gbps Ethernet networks. By offering precise validation and evaluation of new products and technologies, the CKL-2U becomes an indispensable asset for professionals in the industry.
Built on a hardware-based architecture, the CKL-2U ensures maximum accuracy and repeatability, supporting 100% line rate (up to 11.3Gbps) even with minimum-sized frames. With the ability to precisely emulate delays and impairments experienced over Ethernet networks, it facilitates comprehensive validation, performance assessment, and interoperability testing of systems under real-world conditions, delivering precise and reproducible results. Notably, the precise and user-configurable delay injection allows testing of ITU-T Y.1731 performance monitoring metrics such as Frame Delay and Frame Delay Variation. Similarly, the user-configurable frame drop feature enables testing of ITU-T Y.1731 performance monitoring metrics, including Frame Loss Ratio.
One of the key advantages of the CKL-2U is its ability to define up to 16 Network Profiles per interface, significantly enhancing Proof of Concept testing and customer demonstrations. Each profile allows for separate configurations of delay, bandwidth, and impairments, effectively emulating different classes of service or multiple network paths. Furthermore, the CKL-2U offers dynamic impairments, enabling simultaneous changes to multiple impairments without data loss or the need to restart tests. This capability proves invaluable for realistic problem replication during troubleshooting sessions. Dynamic filtering is another notable feature, empowering users to selectively drop Connectivity Check (CC) frames, thus emulating link failure and facilitating Alarm Indication Signal (AIS) notification and upper-layer alarm suppression testing.
The CKL-2U also boasts powerful filtering capabilities, enabling selective or focused impairments. Data filtering in the PDU facilitates functional tests and the validation of various features. Users can leverage user-defined filters to perform sophisticated negative protocol testing, precisely targeting any OAM PDU for impairment or modification based on criteria such as MAC/IP address, VLAN, OAM Level and Type, Version, Op Code, and other relevant fields. Additionally, the CKL-2U supports physical-layer bit-error injection, facilitating comprehensive performance testing. It is compatible with all proprietary and standard L3-L7 protocols, including IPv6, and can handle multi-protocol scenarios on the same chassis. As needs evolve, this chassis seamlessly adapts, providing support for jumbo frames with an infinite size of 12K bytes, enabling testing for reorder and duplication scenarios.
