Spirent DLS 8130

The Spirent DLS 8130 is a VDSL2 Wireline Simulator specifically designed to facilitate performance testing in accordance with a specialized North American Draft Recommendation. This advanced simulator employs a cable model to ensure comprehensive testing coverage for rate-adaptive and multi-use xDSL chipsets. Additionally, the DLS 8130 comprises of two chassis: the DLS 8132 and the DLS 8131. For rate-adaptive chipsets, the simulator offers the option to connect to an external reach extension unit, enabling full auto mode or rate-adaptive testing at distances of up to 23,500 feet (23.5 kft.).

To exercise full control over the DLS 8130, users can employ the compatible Control Application or utilize the user-friendly ScriptCenter Library tool. These options provide flexibility for custom script-based software development to operate the simulator. The Control Application allows remote control and configuration of the system through an RS-232 or GPIB (IEEE 488) interface, with corresponding connectors located on the rear panel of the simulator. It is worth noting that each individual simulator must have a separate connection to the control computer. Alternatively, users can develop their own control software to configure the unit.

By leveraging the various interfaces integrated into the DLS 8130, users can seamlessly integrate the simulator into a test system with enhanced capacity. This simulator accurately outputs the DC and AC characteristics of a copper telephony cable that utilizes passive circuitry. This faithful simulation ensures accurate representation of velocity (propagation delay), complex impedance, and attenuation of the wireline. Furthermore, external noise impairments can be introduced into the simulator for comprehensive testing. The DLS 8130 is equipped with two LED lights, a power LED indicating the unit's power status and a remote LED monitoring valid and invalid commands.

The DLS 8130 chassis is configured with two fuses. To set up the configuration, users need to connect one end of a modular AC line cord to the power input of the simulator and the other end to an AC line supply with a voltage ranging from 100 to 240 VAC at a frequency of 50 to 60 Hz. The simulator is compatible with any voltage and frequency within this range, and no additional switch settings are required. Notably, the loop configuration remains unchanged even when the DLS 8130 is powered off, allowing users to operate the simulator without power. However, during power-up self-test, the loop is momentarily disrupted. It is important to avoid power cycling while conducting tests.
