Spirent DLS-8132

The Spirent DLS-8132 is a chassis that serves as a crucial component of the DLS-8130 VDSL2 Wireline Simulator. It has been specifically designed to conduct performance testing. This simulator facilitates the accurate replication of AC and DC characteristics found in twisted pair copper telephony cables through the use of passive circuitry (R, L & C). As a result, it can effectively simulate important factors such as velocity, complex impedance, and attenuation of the wireline. Additionally, the DLS-8132 allows for the introduction of external noise impairments during testing.

Controlling the DLS-8132 can be achieved either through a compatible control application or through user-testing. The control application enables remote configuration and control of the system via the GPIB (IEEE 488) or RS-232 interface. The utilization of GPIB and RS-232 interfaces also facilitates seamless integration of the entire simulator into a larger test system. To operate the DLS test system, the ScriptCenter Library tool provides the flexibility to develop custom script-based software. Furthermore, the DLS-8132 is equipped with Ext A and Ext B jacks on its front panel, allowing for connection with the DLS-8132 reach extension user.

To ensure optimal performance, it is recommended to arrange the DLS-8132 in a manner that minimizes cable lengths. Placing this chassis on top of the DLS-8131 chassis is a suitable configuration. Connections to the Device Under Test (DUT) are established through the noise injector. Interconnecting both chassis requires a 1-foot RJ-45 cable. Side A and B of the DLS-8131 should be connected to the corresponding Ext A and B ports of the DLS-8132. Moreover, the DLS-8132 can also be connected to the DLS-5405 VDSL2 Noise Injector chassis using a 1-foot RJ-45 cable, ensuring the corresponding A and B sides are connected.

Prior to using the control application, the DLS-8132 must be appropriately configured for connection to the compatible chassis. The Unit Selection drop-down list allows for the selection of the desired chassis configuration. Acting as the wireline end-points for the DUT, this chassis facilitates the extension of a simulated wireline segment (L1) beyond its 8,500-foot capability by connecting an external wireline simulator to the Ext A and Ext B ports on its front panel. Additionally, the configuration of this chassis necessitates three M-values to establish the loop type and segment lengths. In total, six M-values are required to properly configure a DLS-8130 system. Commands specific to this chassis are available, and it is essential to set and query status registers accordingly.
