The Spirent EDM-2002B is a Series 2000 Gigabit Ethernet Test Module designed to facilitate advanced testing across Layer 2 to Layer 3, Layer 4 to Layer 7, and routing functionalities. It proves particularly useful in evaluating the performance of Layer 4 to 7 devices such as load balancers, firewalls, SSL accelerators, IDS/IPS systems, SSL and IPSec VPNs, and web accelerators. With a capacity to handle a maximum of 32,767 streams per port, this module offers a comprehensive and efficient testing solution. The EDM-2002B is portable when installed into a SPT-2000A chassis and can help compare and validate equipment for compliance to product specifications prior to deployment while ensuring the advanced features work correctly.

The EDM-2002B operates with a high port density, allowing multiple users to utilize hardware resources in the most efficient manner. It incorporates a dual media interface, providing both copper and fiber Ethernet interfaces on a single module. This module can be operated remotely through an IP network, the TestCenter Administration Application, which requires only one software tool for operation, and hot swapping capability while the chassis remains fully operational. The EDM-2002B’s user-friendly common automation framework user interface enables access to protocols from Layer 2 and 3, supporting data plane and routing control plane testing. This automation interface spans all network interfaces at all speeds, reducing overall test automation efforts and increasing test reuse.

The EDM-2002B is compatible with a variety of software applications, enabling comprehensive testing and performance analysis within a single system. Users can conveniently field program the module to suit their specific requirements. Real-time per stream statistics, such as maximum, minimum, and average latency per traffic class, along with a real-time event log that provides protocol messaging on a per-port basis, contribute to effective performance evaluation. The EDM-2002B supports both wire-rate and beyond wire-rate traffic analysis and generation across Layer 2 and Layer 3. Users can achieve custom frame and packet editing through a field editor that is graphically driven, allowing for the modification of templates for a wide range of preconfigured control and data plane packets. Finally, this module supports testing of application-level protocols, including SSL, HTTP, Telnet, FTP, IPv6, DNS, Capture/Replay, IPSec, SMTP, POP3, and SIP.
