The G.703 by Spirent is a highly functional Multi-Clock Interface Module specifically designed to facilitate the conversion of TTL signals utilized within a SX/12 Data Link Simulator. The G.703 is equipped with several notable features, including dual bantam jacks and 15-pin D-type connectors for both transmit and receive data. Compatibility with BNC and Twinax connectors, as well as the inclusion of LED indicators providing line status information, further enhance the module's versatility. Moreover, a BNC connector serves as a TTL level 2.048 MHz clock source, while a second BNC connector permits the utilization of an external TTL level clock source as a network clock.
The G.703 offers a transmit timing selector switch that enables the SX/12 to operate within three distinct network timing configurations: Recovered Timing, Internal Timing, and External Timing. In the Recovered Timing mode, the transmitted data's timing is synchronized with the clock derived from the received data. This mode relies on an external G.703 equipment, acting as the master clock, transmitting to the SX/12. On the other hand, the Internal and External Timing modes allow the SX/12 to assume the role of the master clock. Selection among these timing modes can be accomplished through the "TRANSMIT TIMING SOURCE" switch. Notably, the "CLK SLIP" indicator illuminates when a timing issue is detected, indicating an improper timing mode selection.
The G.703 offers various additional features, such as a maximum range exceeding 1500 feet, a receiver sensitivity of -12 dB, receiver jitter tolerance ranging from 300 UIs at 6 Hz to 0.4 UIs at 100 kHz, and a transparent interface for signal data framing. Moreover, the East and West channels of the G.703 can independently choose from AMI, B8ZS, and HBD3 coding, as well as select receiver impedance of 75 or 120 ohms for coaxial or twisted pair cables. This module's interface enables seamless connectivity with customer premises equipment and network equipment, including DACS, channel banks, and DSX-1 cross connects. Notably, dip switches located on the module's underside facilitate the selection of appropriate line coding for the SX/12. Additionally, the dip switch settings cater to both the East and West line codes, while various line testing options are available for the East and West channels.
