The GX-1405B by Spirent is an advanced 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet SmartCard designed specifically for capturing, monitoring, and generating 10/100 Mbps or Gigabit Ethernet traffic. It serves as a reliable tool for a range of applications, including 10/100 Mbps and 1000 Mbps Ethernet backbone testing, as well as conformance and interoperability testing. The GX-1405B features a single port that enables the generation, monitoring, and capture of Gigabit Ethernet traffic in full duplex mode. The physical interface is equipped with a 850 nanometer multi-mode fiber, ensuring optimal connectivity.

In accordance with the IEEE 802.3z specification, the GX-1405B enables testing of Gigabit Ethernet backbones, as well as conformance and interoperability assessments. For comprehensive upstream traffic and throughput testing, the SmartCard can be utilized in conjunction with other SmartCards such as the SX-7410B 100 Mbps SmartCard, or in diverse SmartCard configurations. Notably, the GX-1405B offers a wide range of key features. It facilitates transmission and reception at or beyond wire speed, empowering users to generate both error-free and errored traffic, while also supporting oversized and undersized frames. Additionally, the SmartCard boasts a high port density, making it capable of generating heavy and realistic loads.

To enhance flexibility and functionality, the GX-1405B incorporates four distinct transmit functions. These include transmit modes, background packet data fill patterns, variable field data, and an alternate transmit stream. Transmit modes encompass continuous mode (a constant stream of packets), single burst mode (up to 16 million packets), multi-burst mode (up to 65,536 repetitive bursts), continuous multi-burst mode (continuous operation), and echo mode (trigger-based single packet transmission). With the background packet data fill pattern, users have the ability to configure a custom background fill or select from various options such as incrementing and decrementing byte/word, random data, all zeros, all ones, and other patterns.

Furthermore, the GX-1405B enables the insertion of three varying data fields (VFD1, VFD2, and VFD3) into transmitted packets. This functionality facilitates the representation of diverse traffic scenarios. By interspersing a secondary data stream with the main data stream, controlled percentages of errored traffic, management frames, or pause frames can be generated. In terms of receive functions, the GX-1405B provides two independent triggers, each ranging from 1 to 6 bytes. It also includes counters that can be configured to display rates and events, facilitates latency measurements, supports flow control of traffic transmission and testing, and offers packet capture capabilities.
