The ICG-3001R by Spirent is a subsystem of the Abacus 5000 ICG3 system designed to emulate the functionality of Voice over IP (VoIP) calling. It combines call termination and origination capabilities in a single card. Additionally, this subsystem excels at high stress/performance signaling and RTP media testing. As an Abacus subsystem, the ICG-3001R offers seamless test interoperability and incorporates an SIP proxy server, responsible for routing user agent servers’ SPI requests, as well as SIP responses to user agent clients. It also features a SIP registrar that accepts REGISTER requests and stores the information received in the location service for the relevant domain.
The ICG-3001R is a valuable tool for several applications, such as characterizing internetworking gateways and PSTN network elements prior to trials, validating signal system performance through SIP signal testing with high volume, and identifying functionality and capacity limits concerning RTP performance and interoperability. Moreover, it is compatible with voice quality measurement applications based on established standards, facilitating end-to-end service performance assurance testing across various network interfaces, and assessing the quality of Voicemail and IVR services. The ICG-3001R enables the simulation of multiple IP telephones and/or gateways by generating and delivering call signaling and/or media traffic to the testing system. It can also execute endpoint registration requests to measure the capacity of SIP proxy servers accurately.
One of the notable advantages of the ICG-3001R is its ability to provide full user flexibility through a unified user interface, resulting in overall cost savings. It proves useful in a range of Abacus 5000 applications, supporting registered SIP users of up to 780,000 per chassis. Some specific applications include high IP telephony signaling and media generation, quality of service testing facilitated by VoIP routers, SBC, and Firewall end-to-end testing from SIP UE to SIP servers, as well as network server-side testing isolation for media gateway emulation. Furthermore, the ICG-3001R includes test methodologies for comprehensive MGC/softswitch testing, IP telephony, and IMS testing. It excels at simulating thousands of IP telephones and/or gateways, generating SIP signaling endpoints and RTP for scalability and performance tests on SBCs or SBGs.
