The LAN-3100A by Spirent is a high-performance Ethernet Module designed for 10/100/1000 Mbps networks. This module is specifically designed to operate within the SMB-6000B or SMB-600 chassis and serves the purpose of capturing, monitoring, and generating Ethernet traffic. It offers eight different IEEE 10/100Base-T ports with support for flow control, auto negotiation, 1,522 byte packets per IEEE 802.ac, 802.p, and 802.q. Additionally, the LAN-3100A features two 1000Base-SX ports that utilize an 850 nm multimode fiber physical interface.

The LAN-3100A module can be combined with the LAN-3200A/3200As module to perform thorough throughput and upstream traffic testing. It excels in delivering beyond wire-rate speed transmission and reception, making it ideal for generating realistic and heavy loads. Furthermore, the module possesses the ability to generate, monitor, and capture data, including good traffic, errored traffic, undersized frames, and oversized frames. Multiple transmit modes are available, such as continuous, echo, single burst, continuous, and multi-burst modes. Additionally, the LAN-3100A supports a background packet data fill pattern feature that allows users to configure custom background fills or select from a range of pre-defined patterns. It also offers the capability to insert varying data fields (VFD1, VFD2, and VFD3) into transmitted packets.

The LAN-3100A is equipped with startup functions, including auto-negotiation and an alternate transmit stream that can simulate different traffic scenarios. The primary data stream can be interspersed with a secondary data stream to generate controlled percentages of errored traffic, pause frames, or management frames. Furthermore, this module offers various other capabilities, such as triggers, VLAN tagging, counters, latency measurement, packet capture, and flow control functions. To operate, the LAN-3100A requires a single slot in a compatible chassis. Additionally, it must be connected to an IBM or compatible Windows Pentium PC, which should be equipped with a mouse and a color monitor.
