The LAN-3101A by Spirent is an advanced 6-port Ethernet SmartMetrics module specifically designed to be used in conjunction with the SmartBits SMB-600 or SMB-6000B chassis. When paired with the SMB-600 chassis, two of these modules can be employed together, resulting in a combined total of 12 ports. Alternatively, the SMB-6000B chassis can accommodate up to twelve LAN-3101A modules, providing an impressive total of 72 SmartMetrics ports.
Primarily intended for use in IEEE-compliant 10Base-T and 100Base-TX systems, the LAN-3101A supports essential features such as auto negotiation, VLAN tagging, and flow control according to IEEE standards 802.3p, 802.3Q, 802.3ac, and 802.3x. This module comes equipped with a user-friendly SmartWindow GUI, simplifying the execution of frame loss, stream latency, and sequence tracking tests across a wide range of systems, from single devices under test to complex routed networks. These tests can also be accessed through SmartLib, enabling integration with existing automated tests written in C, C++, or TcI. One of the standout features of the LAN-3101A is its high port density, which facilitates the quick and convenient simulation of large and intricate networks.
The LAN-3101A also offers full wire-rate traffic generation and analysis capabilities, making it ideal for stress testing and performance analysis. The module's data integrity checking feature allows for verification of payload data through the Device Under Test (DUT). Additionally, the LAN-3101A is equipped with two triggers, each capable of accommodating up to 6 bytes, which can be utilized in various combinations. This module is compatible with an RJ-45 connector and supports line rates of 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps, whether user-controlled or auto-negotiated. Furthermore, it provides a range of transmit characteristics, including full/half duplex operation, as well as user-specified or random background frame rate data fill patterns.
Notably, the LAN-3101A offers error generation and detection for CRC, dribble bit, alignment, symbols (100 Mbps mode only), and data integrity (per stream; L3 mode only). The module offers four distinct frame-based transmit modes: continuous, single burst, multiburst, and continuous multiburst, enhancing flexibility during testing. By utilizing the management frame transit feature, users can configure the module's MAC and IP addresses, Netmask, and Gateway. Moreover, the LAN-3101A allows for user-selectable responses to ARP requests and offers options for Ping, SNMP, and RIP frequency settings within the transit.
