The LAN-3101B by Spirent is an Ethernet SmartMetrics module that boasts 6 ports and is designed for use with a SMB-600x or SMB-6000x chassis. When used in the SMB-600x chassis, it can be utilized in pairs, while the SMB-6000x chassis can accommodate up to twelve of these modules, providing 72 SmartMetrics ports in total. The LAN-3101B specifically caters to IEEE-compliant 100Base-TX and 10Base-T systems, and it supports various functionalities such as flow control, VLAN tagging, and auto-negotiation as per the IEEE standards 802.3p, 802.3Q, 802.3ac, and 802.3x.

Equipped with a user-friendly SmartWindow GUI, the LAN-3101B simplifies frame loss, stream latency, and sequence tracking testing across a range of scenarios, from single device evaluations to complex routed networks. It seamlessly integrates with existing TcI, C++, or C automated tests through the SmartLibrary, enabling test consolidation. The module offers high-speed traffic generation and analysis capabilities for both IPv6 and IPv4, along with a high port density that facilitates the swift simulation of large-scale network configurations necessary for the development, testing, and validation of Layer 2 and Layer 3 devices. Additionally, the LAN-3101B supports full wire-rate traffic generation and analysis, enabling stress testing, performance evaluation, and data integrity verification of payload data through the Device Under Test (DUT).

The LAN-3101B's SmartMetrics test functions empower users to evaluate network behavior under varying traffic conditions, perform insightful what-if analyses, and draw intelligent conclusions. Through sophisticated histogram results, these tests provide valuable information regarding the correlation of performance vectors, offering insights into flow relationships and timing. This approach allows for the seamless evaluation of device functionality and performance under load and various conditions. The LAN-3101B's SmartMetrics tests include frame variation measurement, latency distribution with selectable time intervals of up to 16, latency over time within specific intervals (e.g., every 10 minutes), raw tags for unprocessed frame forwarding to applications, latency per stream recording minimum/maximum latency, and sequence tracking providing throughput/frame loss testing on a per-stream basis.
