The LAN-3111As by Spirent is a 6-port Fast Ethernet Fiber SmartMetrics module specifically designed for use with the SMB-600/6000B chassis. Its primary purpose is to assess and validate the performance and compatibility of Layer 3 devices, as well as evaluate the functionality and efficiency of Layer 2 operations. The LAN-3111As module offers comprehensive capabilities, including full wire-rate traffic generation and analysis. With its single port, it can generate network traffic equivalent to a fully-loaded LAN accommodating up to 1,000 end-user devices. This module satisfies the increasing demand for a 100Base-FX optical fiber interface, utilizing a 1310 nm wavelength laser and a modular RJ-format, LC fiber connector.

The LAN-3111As is built to comply with IEEE standards for 100Base-FX systems, supporting VLAN tagging and flow control according to the specifications outlined in IEEE 802.3p, 802.3Q, 802.3ac, and 802.3x. To facilitate ease of use, it is accompanied by the SmartWindow™ GUI, which provides a user-friendly interface for conducting various tests, including frame loss, stream latency, and sequence tracking. This allows for testing scenarios ranging from a single device under evaluation to complex routed networks. Additionally, the LAN-3111As is compatible with the SmartLib application, enabling integration with existing C, C++, or Tcl automated tests. It also supports a range of other applications such as SmartWindow, ScriptCenter, SmartApplications, SmartFLow, SmartVoIPQoS, SmartMulticastIP, AST II, SmartTCP, SmartxDSL, and SmartCableModern Test.
