The LAN-3200A by Spirent is a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Module that operates in full-duplex/half-duplex and provides 8 IEEE 10/100Base-T ports. Offered by these ports are support for 1,522 byte packets per IEEE 802.3ac, 802.q, and 802.p standards, allowing for VLAN tagged fields, flow control, and auto negotiation. The LAN-3200A features two 1000Base-SX ports that boast a physical interface using multi-mode fiber operating at 850 nm. Its purpose is to test the interoperability, performance, and conformance of Gigabit Ethernet backbones according to specified specifications.
The LAN-3200A offers several key functional features. It can generate oversized or undersized frames and produce both good and errored traffic. With its high port density, it is capable of realistic and heavy load generation. Moreover, the LAN-3200A can generate, capture, and monitor data, surpassing wire-rate speeds for transmitted data. It supports various transmit modes, including echo, continuous multi-burst, single burst, continuous, and multi-burst modes. Additional transmit functions include user-configurable background packet fill data and variable field data with three variations.
Furthermore, the LAN-3200A provides start-up functions for an alternate transmit stream of data, which can be configured to represent different traffic scenarios. It also supports an auto-negotiation protocol. On the receiving end, the LAN-3200A offers two independent triggers that can be adjusted from the first byte to the last byte of the frame. Receive functions include counters capable of displaying rates and events, latency measurements with various interworking analysis cards, flow control testing, packet capture with pre-capture filtering, and VLAN tagging of frames.
