The LAN-3200As by Spirent is a highly capable 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Module designed to generate, monitor, and capture Ethernet traffic within a compatible SmartBits chassis. This module offers two 1000Base-LX ports with a 1310 nanometer operating physical interface, utilizing single-mode fiber. It strictly adheres to the IEEE 802.3z specification and serves as a valuable tool for testing the performance, interoperability, and conformance of Gigabit Ethernet backbones. For comprehensive testing, the LAN-3200As can be combined with a LAN-3100A module to perform upstream traffic and throughput analysis.
The LAN-3200As module surpasses wire-rate speed both in transmitting and receiving data, making it a versatile option for generating various types of traffic, including data, good traffic, errored traffic, oversized frames, and undersized frames. It also boasts a high port density feature, allowing users to generate heavy and realistic traffic loads. Compatibility-wise, the LAN-3200As seamlessly integrates with a range of applications such as ScriptCenter, SmartApplications, SmartLib Programming Library, SmartWindow, and AST II. In terms of transmit modes, the module offers multiple options, including continuous mode, echo mode, single burst mode, continuous multi-burst mode, and multi-burst mode. Furthermore, users can utilize the background packet data fill pattern function to customize a background fill or select from various decrementing and incrementing bytes options.
Notably, the LAN-3200As enables the insertion of variable field data into transmitted packets, with three data fields available: VFD1 and VFD2, which can be up to 6 bytes in length, and VFD3, which supports a user-specified 2,048-byte buffer. This flexibility allows for the creation of packet sequences with different protocol headers between packets. Additionally, the LAN-3200As offers startup functions such as an alternate transmit stream and auto-negotiation. The alternate transmit stream feature permits the configuration of transmitted data to simulate various traffic scenarios, including dispersing another data stream alongside the main data stream. This functionality is useful for generating pause frames, management frames, or percentages of errored traffic that are controlled.
