The Spirent LAN-3320A is a 2-Port SmartMetrics XD Module that is designed to facilitate high-speed network testing. It supports a Gigabit Ethernet Fiber connection, a 10/100/1000 Mbps connector, and "dual media" Ethernet connections. The LAN-3320A can be integrated into the SmartBits test system, which can accommodate a maximum of 768 ports. Its primary function is to simulate millions of servers and clients, enabling comprehensive testing of network systems and high-speed internetworking between Ethernet interfaces.

One of the key features of the LAN-3320A is its ability to generate realistic traffic at different layers of the network stack while providing precise metric measurements for each layer. It supports testing through Layers 3 and 2 and performs simultaneous data plane test correlation with control plane traffic, including routing. By leveraging this module, users can measure maximum data plane performance metrics such as average latency, packet loss, and throughput of networking systems and devices. Furthermore, the LAN-3320A is well-suited for assessing Layer 7 and Layer 4 performance of devices and specific control plane performance of network-embedded applications like routing, security, MPLS, and Multicast IP.

Compatibility is a notable aspect of the LAN-3320A, as it can be seamlessly integrated with various SmartBits chassis. Each test port on this module features two connectors, allowing for the utilization of Mbps and Gigabit Ethernet connectors with SFP transceivers for single mode or multimode operation. This module also supports firewall testing, enabling connection rate testing, effective throughput testing, and monitoring of Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. Moreover, with the TeraVPN tester application, the LAN-3320A can conduct IP VPN testing. The module supports the utilization of IPSec protocol to generate thousands of tunnels, execute data over runners, and provide bounce diagrams for troubleshooting tunnel creation.

The IPSec protocol of the LAN-3320A serves multiple purposes, including measuring forwarding rate, packet loss, and response time. It offers the capability to stack logs for investigating tunnel failures, input Security Parameter Index (SPI) for incoming and outgoing tunnels, and exert control over IKE Phase 1 setup parameters such as number of retries and expire timer. The LAN-3320A incorporates a user-friendly GUI with a straightforward tab-based configuration and a graphical single-tunnel setup wizard, reducing the learning curve for users. Additionally, it supports 802.1x testing, enabling users to evaluate session setup rate up to 100 sessions per second, simulate up to 256 supplicants per port, and measure session setup rate per supplicant.
