The LAN-3327A by Spirent is a SmartBits 1-Port TeraMetrics XD module that offers dual media Ethernet connections on each test port. It provides users with two varieties of connections: a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet fiber. The LAN-3327A is part of a scalable test system that can accommodate from two ports up to 768 ports, allowing for high-density testing. It is specifically designed for testing high-speed internetworking between Ethernet interfaces and other Packet over SONET and ATM interfaces.

One of the key features of the LAN-3327A is its ability to generate realistic traffic and measure specific metrics at different layers. This module can correlate control plane traffic and data plane tests at Layers 2 and 3, enabling maximum realistic performance measurements. It supports custom traffic generation for functional testing of network devices, as well as measuring Layer 4 to 7 performance, control plane performance of network-embedded applications, and maximum data plane performance. Additionally, the LAN-3327A can analyze Class of Service (CoS) and Differentiated Services (DiffServ) information, allowing it to transmit millions of IP flows.

To emulate large routed networks, the LAN-3327A can run multiple protocols per port simultaneously. It provides realistic protocol breadth and higher application traffic for testing at Layers 4 to 7. The module presents test results using tables and graphs, which can be exported to other applications. It also incorporates robust security protocols to protect the system, including Firewall testing capabilities to assess connection rates, effective throughput, and handle Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. Furthermore, for advanced systems, the LAN-3327A can generate extremely high loads of protocol-accurate traffic over TCP.

Each test port of the LAN-3327A features two connectors: one for 10/100/1000 Mbps operation (Copper) and the other for Gigabit Fiber connectors. The Gigabit Fiber connector supports both single-mode and multimode configurations using Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) transceivers. The test port can be configured for half or full duplex, and 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps operation, depending on the system software. The LAN-3327A is also compatible with IP VPN testing using the TeraVPN Tester application. Additionally, it can accommodate an optional XD Security module for hardware acceleration of IP Sec tunnel setup.
