The LAN-6101A by Spirent is a specialized 10/100Base-TX SmartMetrics Module designed for use in conjunction with the SMB-6000 chassis. This module, in the form of a custom-designed printed circuit board (PCB), is intended for integration into a SmartBits chassis, enabling the generation, capture, and analysis of network packet data. Notably, the LAN-6101A offers a higher port density compared to SmartCards that are compatible with alternative chassis options.

To successfully operate the SmartApplications 2.50 software, two modules similar to the LAN-6101A are required. Additionally, the system prerequisites include a SmartBits chassis, an IBM PC, Pentium 200 processor, VGA video support, 16 MB of RAM for Windows, and a minimum of 10 MB of available hard disk space. In a multi-user testing environment, it is necessary for users to reserve the LAN-6101A module prior to employing it for testing purposes. This involves checking the card status, reserving the available cards, and subsequently releasing the card after use. The compatible chassis supports a variety of modules with different port configurations. Each slot on the chassis is assigned a unique number, and the modules occupying these slots are identified as Module A and Module B. Specifically, Module A is positioned on the left side while Module B is situated on the right side of the slot.
