The Spirent MSA-2001B is a high-performance test module specifically designed for 10-Gigabit Ethernet networks. It also facilitates testing of broadband access, metropolitan, and enterprise routing protocols. By subjecting 10GbE switches, link aggregators, and routers to various traffic loads and deliberate error conditions, the MSA-2001B allows for the evaluation of crucial functional and performance parameters.

One notable feature of the MSA-2001B is its ability to compare and validate 10GbE network equipment, ensuring compliance with product and protocol specifications. This capability, combined with other features, guarantees optimal performance of advanced network device functionalities. This module also serves as a valuable tool for routine verification of routing controls and converged network capabilities. Supported operating systems for the MSA-2001B include Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 Server (32-bit and 64-bit), RedHat EL3 and EL5, as well as Solaris 8.0 and 10.0.

What sets the MSA-2001B apart from other test modules is its support for 10GBASE-T, the latest data center solution for interconnecting switches, servers, and routers. This feature allows for the testing and characterization of 10Gbps communication over shielded/unshielded twisted pair (UTP) copper, in accordance with the 802.3an standard. It supports connectivity of up to 100m on CAT6A and CAT7 copper cables. Compared to 10GBASE-CX4 copper cables and connector systems, 10GBASE-T over Cat6A copper cables is more cost-effective and easier to install. Moreover, this technology enables Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEMs) to build higher density switches and routers. Over time, as the power consumption of the PHY (Physical Layer) decreases, 10GBASE-T will become a high port density interface.

The MSA-2001B can measure ultra-low latency with a resolution as fine as 10 nanoseconds. This capability is particularly crucial for testing silicon communications chips and optical transceivers. With the increasing complexity of chip-based functionalities, high port density, scalability, and ultra-low forwarding latency at 10GbE line rates, accurate and reliable testing is essential. The MSA-2001B is considered a small port system with a 2-port capacity. As a result, the minimum system requirements for its operation include a 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor (or equivalent), 512 MB RAM, and 10 GB of free disk space. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an Intel Core™ 2 Duo E6300 processor (or equivalent) with 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of free disk space.
