The Spirent POS-3505AS is a highly capable TeraMetrics scalable performance analysis module designed specifically for testing Packet over SONET/SDH systems. It has the capability to simulate a large number of client/server sessions and control protocols, enabling comprehensive testing of these systems. Through repeatable, industry-standard tests, the POS-3505AS can rapidly measure crucial metrics such as IP frame sequencing, latency, and true load capacity.

The POS-3505AS plays a critical role in qualifying POS routers during their final regression, quality assurance, and development testing stages. By conducting tests on control plane protocols like BGP4 (for routing) and RSVP-TE (for MPLS), the POS-3505AS can analyze their impact on data forwarding. This significantly enhances time-to-market and minimizes the risk of failures at customer sites. Furthermore, network service providers benefit from the ability to thoroughly stress test and commission high-speed POS networks before their actual deployment. In addition to stress testing routing protocols, this module excels at performing high-load data plane testing.

The POS-3505AS offers multiple operational modes, including frame-based transmit modes, frame-based receive modes, and capture mode. The frame-based transmit modes encompass continuous, single burst, multiburst, and continuous multiburst rates. Meanwhile, the frame-based receive modes provide options for per-stream statistics based on addressing, protocol type, port number, and frame priorities. The over-time statistics mode allows the module to maintain statistics for all incoming frames within a specified timeframe. These modes enable a range of functions, such as IP header checksum and data integrity checks, latency histograms for latency distribution, and sequence tracking for streams.

When operating in capture mode, the POS-3505AS offers full line-rate (2.488 Gbps) capture and analysis, a generous 16 MB capture buffer per port, and support for frame lengths ranging from 9 to 16,384 bytes. The module facilitates frame selection options, allowing the capture of an entire frame up to 16 KB in size, a slice of a frame starting at offset 0 (with a programmable number of 64-byte slices), or just the signature field. Pre-capture filtering is available, which enables the selection of specific frame types, such as frames with or without a signature field, only the signature field, received trigger frames, CRC errors, data integrity errors, and IP checksum errors. Additionally, the POS-3505AS offers two triggers of variable length, with multiple combinations available, including Trigger 1 only, Trigger 2 only, Triggers 1 and 2, and Trigger 1 or 2. This module boasts a 1-port density and a 2.488 Gbps line rate.
