The SR8048 by Spirent is a Test Configuration Unit (TCU) designed to optimize LTE Automated and EV-DO test systems. This TCU offers standard functional capabilities like other units, but it stands out by enabling users to perform LTE and EV-DO testing on a single system. By utilizing instruments such as ESGs, Faders, and spectrum analyzers across both wireless technologies, significant cost savings can be achieved. Unlike other units that rely on an Agilent 3499B for control, the SR8048 is connected to the router and controlled via an Ethernet connection. This eliminates the need for manual configuration of the system, resulting in enhanced test execution speed.

The SR8048 offers three primary configurations for the Access Terminal-Base Station Link in EV-DO ATS. The first configuration involves the utilization of a Wireless Channel Emulator in the forward path to introduce impairments. Additionally, a Base Station Emulator is employed to provide all the necessary signaling and communication protocols for initiating data connections and evaluating the Packet Error Rate (PER) performance of the access terminal. It is worth noting that the SR8048 may encounter a level out of range error during continuous operation mode when running Idle Handoff or during soft handoff tests on an EV-DO system.
