The SX-7410B by Spirent is a highly capable 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet SmartCard that offers a range of functionalities such as traffic generation, monitoring, and capturing for both Gigabit Ethernet and 10/100 Mbps networks. It serves a variety of purposes including 1000 Mbps and 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interoperability, conformance testing, and backbone testing. Equipped with advanced features, the SX-7410B supports IEEE 100Base-X auto negotiation, flow control, VLAN tagged fields, and 1522 byte packets according to IEEE 802.1p, 802.1q, and 802.3ac draft documents. It also enables data capture of up to 128,000 bytes of packet data, ensuring comprehensive analysis capabilities.

Noteworthy aspects of the SX-7410B include its ability to generate oversized and undersized frames, simulate good and errored traffic, and produce heavy and realistic loads due to its high port density. Furthermore, it offers reception and transmission at wire rate speed or beyond, enabling efficient and accurate testing. The transmit functions of the SX-7410B are versatile and diverse. It provides various transmit modes, such as single burst mode capable of generating millions of packets, multi-burst mode for continuous operation, continuous mode that ensures a constant stream of packets, multi-burst mode offering repetitive bursts, and echo mode triggering a single packet transmission. Additional transmit functions encompass background packet data fill patterns, alternate transmit stream, and variable field data.

The SX-7410B boasts two independent triggers and counters on the receive side. These counters monitor metrics such as valid packets received, valid frame length packets with bad CRC, packets successfully transmitted, packets larger than 1,518 bytes, received bytes retrieved by valid packets, and the number of packets received with a specific trigger pattern. The SmartCard also supports packet capture, latency measurement, and flow control as part of its receive functions. To facilitate seamless integration and control, the SX-7410B is compatible with AST II, ScriptCenter, SmartApplications, SmartLib Programming Library, and SmartWidow applications. It requires a SmartBits chassis for connectivity and can be operated using a compatible Pentium PC running Windows 98/NT/2000 or IBM, accompanied by a mouse and color monitor.
