The WN-3405 by Spirent is a WAN SmartCard that is designed for generating and monitoring data network traffic over WAN links. With its single-port interface, this SmartCard enables network performance analysis by conducting frame-level testing at full wire-rate for devices such as routers, switches, and access devices utilizing Frame Relay and PPP technologies. It is also compatible with other SmartBits SmartCards and modules, facilitating high-performance internetworking tests between Frame Relay/PPP devices and LAN, ATM, or other Frame Relay/PPP devices, focusing on testing within Layer 3 and 2 of the network. The WN-3405 is capable of re-qualifying WAN switches and access devices after firmware upgrades, ensuring their functionality remains intact.
The WN-3405 enables competitive analysis of WAN switches and access devices, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of their performance characteristics. The SmartCard is also capable of assessing key performance parameters of WAN devices under both typical and extreme traffic load conditions. The WN-3405 features a V.35 interface that supports line rates of up to 6 Mbps full-duplex or 8 Mbps half-duplex, ensuring efficient and reliable connectivity. Additionally, it offers support for various protocols, including LMI, Annex A, and Annex D Link Management Protocols, as well as IP over Frame Relay or IP over PPP protocols. Notably, the SmartCard can accommodate up to 128 individual IP, UDP, or custom traffic streams per card, enabling extensive testing with up to 128 PVCs per port at full wire speed.
To facilitate ease of use, the WN-3405 provides SmartApplications and SmartWindow graphical user interfaces (GUIs), which streamline the process of conducting throughput, packet loss, latency, back-to-back, and sequence tracking testing. This versatile SmartCard can be utilized for testing a single device under test (DUT) or an entire internetwork. Moreover, it offers the SmartLib API for integration with existing C, C++, or TcI application sets, enhancing its versatility and compatibility. The ScriptCenter application further expands testing options, offering both GUI and scripting capabilities to set up tests efficiently. The WN-3405 is equipped with support for HDLC and custom layer 2 header through byte-wide VFD overwrite. For frame relay link testing, it supports a flexible Q.922 2-byte header format with RFC 1490 encapsulation. Additionally, the SmartCard provides PPP support and enables latency measurements, contributing to a comprehensive assessment of network performance.
