The WN-3415 by Spirent is a WAN SmartCard that can be utilized as an advanced network tool for performance analysis. Its primary function is to initiate testing at the frame-level at full wire-rate for Frame Relay and PPP access devices, switches, and routers. This SmartCard offers a single-port interface that enables monitoring and generation of data network traffic over WAN links. When combined with other SmartBits SmartCards/modules, the WN-3415 facilitates internetworking tests that exhibit high performance between Frame Relay/PPP devices and LAN, ATM, or other Frame Relay/PPP devices, covering Layer 2 and Layer 3 evaluations.
The WN-3415 supports SmartWindow and SmartApplication graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that simplify the execution of throughput, packet loss, latency, back-to-back, and sequence tracking tests. Whether evaluating a single device under test (DUT) or a comprehensive internetwork, users can easily employ these interfaces. Notably, the SmartCard proves particularly useful for re-qualifying WAN switches and access devices following firmware upgrades, as well as assessing key performance parameters under different traffic load conditions. Additionally, it enables comparative analysis of WAN access and switch devices. With regard to connectivity, the WN-3415 supports an RJ-48 interface operating at up to T1 (1.544 Mbps) line rate, adjustable in 64 Kbps increments. It offers full wire speed frame relay testing, capable of handling up to 128 PVCs per port.
The WN-3415 is highly adaptable for conducting interoperability and performance testing of data networks and network devices across multiple WAN lines. It supports Link Management Protocols such as LMI, Annex A, and Annex D, along with protocol support for IP over Frame Relay (RFC 1490) or IP over PPP. Additionally, the SmartCard provides HDLC and custom layer 2 header support through byte-wide VFD overwrite functionality. The WN-3415 incorporates a flexible Q.922 2-byte header format with RFC 1490 encapsulation support, as well as the ability to carry UDP traffic streams over the PPP link. Moreover, it facilitates precise latency measurements with a resolution of 2 bytes and a time granularity of 100 nanoseconds, employing a trigger mechanism.
