The WN-3445A by Spirent is an advanced WAN SmartMetrics SmartCard designed for conducting frame-level testing at full wire rate. It caters to WAN and broadband access devices, switches, and LAN routers. When used in conjunction with other SmartBits SmartCards, this versatile SmartCard enables high-performance interworking testing between Frame Relay/PPP devices and LAN, ATM, or other Frame Relay/PPP devices through Layer 2 & 3 tests. Key features of the WN-3445A include support for T1/E1/DS3 interfaces, IGMP V2 protocol, frame relay, Annex A & D link management, line-rate traffic generation and analysis, and a maximum of 64K flows per stream.
The WN-3445A integrates seamlessly with various applications such as SmartLib Programming Library, SmartFlow, SmartWindow, and ScriptCenter. With the SmartWindow and SmartFlow applications, users gain the ability to perform a range of essential tests including packet loss, back-to-back, latency, throughput, and sequence tracking tests on systems within an internetwork, all from a single device under test (DUT). These testing capabilities are also accessible through the SmartLib API, facilitating smooth integration with existing C, C++, or TcI application sets. The ScriptCenter application offers both graphical user interface (GUI) and scripting options for initiating testing using the WN-3445A SmartCard.
The WN-3445A extends its functionality to encompass clear channel DS3 support, with maximum rates depending on frame size and the number of channels configured. Furthermore, it supports sequence tracking, latency per stream, latency over time, raw tags, and sequence plus latency tests. Layer 2 latency measurements with a trigger mechanism can be conducted between all compatible SmartBits SmartCards. For layer 3 latency tests, the WN-3445A collaborates with other SmartCards using the transmit time signature field, achieving a 2-byte time resolution with a granularity of 100 nanoseconds. In terms of infrastructure requirements, this SmartCard necessitates two slots within a compatible SMB-200/2000 chassis for operation. Additionally, it mandates an IBM or compatible Pentium PC running Windows 98/2000/NT, along with a mouse and color monitor, to deliver optimal performance.
