The XFP-3730A by Spirent is a cost-effective SmartMetrics 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) module designed for benchmarking and performance testing of Layer-2 and Layer-3 switches and switch routers. It serves as an excellent platform for functional testing in 10GbE firmware development, manufacturing, and quality assurance applications. Offering realistic traffic generation across various OSI layers, the XFP-3730A enables analysis of stream, packet, and data frame metrics at each layer. It effectively manages both control plane traffic required for enterprise and metropolitan routing, as well as data plane tests.
By facilitating functional testing and automated performance, the XFP-3730A significantly accelerates the deployment and development of 10GbE networking equipment. This versatile module supports WAN Layer-2 protocols and 10GbE LAN protocols, providing comprehensive testing capabilities. It performs negative testing by introducing errors in transmitted traffic and manipulating routing decisions for individual frames, thereby subjecting routers to stress. Moreover, the XFP-3730A offers core router performance testing, aggregated performance testing of switches, and IP multicast performance testing. Key measurements like stream identification, load from a single test iteration, frame sequencing, packet loss, and latency can all be accurately assessed.
The XFP-3730A complies with the XFP MSA standard specifications. Its XFP MSA interface allows users to easily modify the XFP optical transceiver, supporting different 10GbE laser wavelengths, reach ranges, and 10GbE serial data link layer protocols. To ensure compatibility, the module requires a single slot in a SmartBits chassis. Additionally, an IBM or compatible Pentium® PC running Windows® 98/2000/NT/XP, equipped with a mouse and color monitor, is necessary for controlling the module. Users must utilize an Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connectors (employing a crossover cable if directly connecting to the SmartBits chassis or module) and a 10/100 Mbps half-duplex Ethernet controller card in the PC or workstation. Notably, the XFP-3730A features separate transmit and receive sides, each offering distinct operating functionalities.
