The XFP-3731A by Spirent is a cutting-edge TeraMetrics 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) module designed to generate realistic traffic across various OSI layers while providing in-depth analysis of data frame, packet, and stream metrics at each layer. With its advanced functionality, this module seamlessly handles data plane tests alongside control plane traffic required for metropolitan and enterprise routing, delivering the most accurate and realistic performance measurements available in the industry. Ideal for switch routers and routing protocol benchmarking and performance testing, the XFP-3731A offers exceptional Layer-2 through Layer-7 testing capabilities.
The XFP-3731A boasts a Pentium® processor, delivering integrated and highly scalable control and data plane testing. This module serves as an excellent platform for 10GbE firmware development, routing protocol performance tests, quality assurance, and system test applications. Furthermore, the XFP-3731A complies with the IEEE 802.3ae standard and fully supports the XFP MSA standard specifications. Leveraging the XFP MSA interface, users can easily modify the XFP optical transceiver to accommodate different 10GbE laser wavelengths, reach ranges, and 10GbE serial data link layer protocols. The XFP transceiver is conveniently hot-pluggable to the test module, automatically reconfiguring itself to adapt to various optical transceiver types. Seamless transition between 10GbE LAN and WAN Layer-2 protocols is facilitated by the SmartBits software applications and test automation APIs.
Setting itself apart from competing modules, the XFP-3731A offers a range of exceptional features. On the transmit side, it provides stream-based, wire-rate traffic generation across all frame sizes. Users can leverage frame sizes ranging from 48 to 16,384 bytes without CRC, supporting up to 2048 independent IPv4 or IPv6 streams. The module also accommodates 802.1p, 802.1q, and 802.3ac VLAN tagged frames, 802.3x flow control commands and PAUSE frames, as well as random IFG generation. Furthermore, the XFP-3731A allows for the creation of millions of unique address flows by varying multiple address fields per stream. Its arbitrary stream sequencing feature enables the mixing of various frame rates, while mask-based address skipping ensures easy setup. The module supports multiple transmission modes, including continuous, single burst, multiburst, and continuous multi-burst modes.
The receive side capabilities of the XFP-3731A are equally impressive. It can track and analyze up to 64,000 unique streams in histograms, providing real-time analysis of TOS, Diffserv, and traffic class values, along with rates and events per traffic classification. The module also offers link fault signaling tests, allowing users to set and test both remote and local link faults. Users can simultaneously measure packet loss, latency, and frame sequencing for each stream, correlating them to traffic load. The module efficiently analyzes unicast, broadcast, and multicast traffic effects. To facilitate extensive logging and exporting of filtered events to external protocol analysis equipment, it incorporates a 64 Mb captube buffer. Additionally, the XFP-3731A ensures data integrity by performing data payload portion integrity checks and IP header checksum verification.
