The Spirent XLW-3721A is a SmartBits 10 Gigabit Ethernet XENPAK TeraMetrics Module designed for comprehensive Layer 2 through Layer 7 testing. It serves as an optimal choice for switch routers, routing protocol benchmarking, and performance testing. This module incorporates a dedicated Pentium processor that enables integrated and highly scalable control and data plane performance testing. The XLW-3721A serves as an outstanding platform for 10GbE development, routing protocol performance testing, quality assurance, and system test applications. One of the primary applications of this module is measuring the performance and ensuring the interoperability of IPv6 and IPv4 networking devices while adhering to the IEEE 802.3ae standard.

The XLW-3721A offers highly scalable line-rate testing for switches, routers, and switch routers. It can generate realistic traffic across various OSI layers and provide in-depth analysis of stream metrics, data frames, and packets for each layer. This module efficiently manages control plane traffic and data plane tests required for enterprise and metropolitan routing. Moreover, it serves as a preferred network interface for connecting workgroup switches, data center backbones in complex networks, managing large 1GbE link aggregation, and interconnecting large enterprise networks. The XLW-3721A facilitates the accelerated deployment and development of 10GbE networking equipment through its automated functional and performance testing capabilities. It supports both WAN and LAN Layer-2 protocols and incorporates a pluggable XAUI interface extender module for testing XAUI-based devices.

The XLW-3721A seamlessly integrates with XENPAK MSA transceivers, allowing automatic reconfiguration to accommodate different optic types. This module provides essential measurements such as load, stream identification, frame sequencing, latency, and packet loss. To stress test routers, the module employs a technique where each frame prompts a different routing decision, and it performs negative testing by injecting error traffic. Additionally, it evaluates the IP multicast performance, Diffserv and VLAN-enabled devices, as well as the forwarding performance of devices that handle a combination of IPv4 and IPv6 streams on the same port. Moreover, the XLW-3721A can assess the aggregated performance of switches when multiple 10/100 Mbps or Gigabit Ethernet ports transmit traffic to one or more 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The module supports RFC-2544 data plane testing while evaluating BGP protocol, which proves beneficial for testing core router performance. Furthermore, it is compatible with SmartBits chassis and requires two slots for connectivity.
