The POS-3500B by Spirent is an advanced SmartMetrics Ethernet module designed to enhance frame tracking capabilities. Each frame is equipped with a SmartBits signature field, enabling comprehensive frame monitoring. This module offers a wide range of features, including sequence tracking, latency measurement over time, latency per stream, latency variation, latency distribution, and raw tag functionality. One of the key strengths of the POS-3500B is its ability to generate numerous streams and flows per port, allowing for versatile testing scenarios. The actual number of streams and flows achievable depends on the specific application and the memory limitations of the host computer used to run the application.

Primarily employed in SMB-600 and SMB-6000B systems, the POS-3500B is specifically designed for testing Packet over SONET/SDH routers and network devices. It seamlessly integrates with various applications, such as SmartWindow, SmartLib, SmartFlow, BGP Router Test, and ScriptCenter. Moreover, it is compatible with the ASTII application, specially tailored for optimal performance with this module. The POS-3500B aims to conduct frame-level testing at full OC-12c/STM-4 and OC-3c/STM-1 wire rates, ensuring accurate evaluation of high-speed inter-networking capabilities between the module and Gigabit-Ethernet, FastEthernet, ATM, or Frame Relay devices.

Equipped with a 1MB capture buffer, the POS-3500B facilitates efficient logging and exporting of filtered events to external protocol analysis equipment. Additionally, it offers granular control over each stream, allowing for customization of frame size (ranging from 40 to 64K bytes), frame rate, and transmission mode (continuous, single-burst, multi-burst, continuous multi-burst). The POS-3500B excels in generating up to 8,192 independent IP streams, along with the ability to analyze unicast and broadcast traffic events. It further provides valuable analysis capabilities, such as data integrity checking of payload and IP header checksum verification, ensuring comprehensive assessment of network performance and data integrity.
